John Michael

Last week John Michael was sick with yet another double ear infection. We saw his doctor and she referred him for tubes and she scheduled the consultation for this past Tuesday. I was expecting the actual procedure to be after Christmas but it is scheduled for 6:00 tomorrow morning. Yikes! I had quite a list of things to do this week and this was not on there. Of course we had the appointment on Tuesday, had a pre-op appointment this morning, and have to be there at 6:00 tomorrow morning. Of course he will not go to school on Friday so there goes my week. I just hope it takes care of the problem and he feels better and stops having these yucky ear infections! Say a little prayer for him in the morning that all goes well and that there are no complications and he recovers quickly.

We Like Santa Afterall

We went for Breakfast with Santa this morning and John Michael actually liked Santa and Mrs. Clause. I really didn't know what to expect. We have been watching him on TV alot lately and looking at pictures of him in books and he seemed to be okay with it, but I didn't know. I thought these pictures turned out really good. Yay!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

I wish these pictures were taken in real snow but I guess here in the south we have to settle for soap bubbles. These were taken at Dicken Downtown Tuesday night. We can pretend, can't we? Elfie and Bedford were "just hangin around" Tuesday night when we got home from Dickens Downtown. John Michael riding a "horse", one of his favorite pasttimes these days.

Seventeen Years!

I can't believe Joseph and I have been married seventeen years this coming Sunday. Wow! Where does time go? We are trying to decide what we want to do to celebrate this year. Before kids, we used to do something really special every year. Of course with it being so close to Christmas it always seems extra special. One year we went to a little bed & breakfast in Versailes Kentucky and went to a really quaint little restaurant. Another year we went to "The Red Geranium", another really neat restaurant in New Harmony Indiana. A couple of years ago we went to Gatlinburg to celebrate and last year we went to "The Phantom of the Opera" in October as an early celebration. Joseph has always been awesome about coming up with neat ways for us to celebrate this special event for us. We spent our honeymoon in Steamboat Springs Colorado and one of these days we want to go back there. Like I said, Christmas makes it even more special because wherever we go the lights and sounds of Christmas are there and when we were in Kentucky, lots of years, there was snow. This morning when I got to work I had a beautiful arrangements of flowers.... a Christmas bouquet with a little snowy house in the center. Thank you sweetheart for the flowers but most of all thank you for seventeen wonderful years! I love you!

They're Here!

Elfie & Bedford arrived two nights ago and boy do we have some excitement around our house! As many of you know, Elfie is our magical elf that has been with Samuel every Christmas since his very first. He arrives when we put our Christmas tree up and leaves on Christmas Eve with Santa. Bedford joined us last year a couple of days before Christmas due to a letter sent to Santa from Samuel on John Michael's behalf. They have been up to their usual tricks already! This is one of our favorite traditions! We have such good memories of all the things our elves have gotten into and Samuel can't wait every year for the arrival. He loves it and John Michael will too, I'm sure, as he catches on to the whole idea. Sometimes there is quite a mess to clean up when these little guys are finished with one of their tricks. They love to get into the toilet paper, pop popcorn for themselves, watch movies during the night, climb the Christmas tree, get into the refrigerator, even bake cookies, play video games, anything you can imagine. Last year they went to McDonalds during the night and the next morning we found the jeep parked all crooked in the garage with Happy Meal boxes and french fries all over the place and Christmas music blaring loud! Another morning Samuel couldn't find Elfie anywhere. When he got to school he found him hidden away in his backpack. And the best part? His teacher's kids have elves also so she played along and Elfie did tricks in his classroom! How great was that? Another of our favorites was Joseph's idea. Again, we couldn't find Elfie one morning. He had gone to work with Joseph and came home with a Coral Industries official picture ID badge and a paycheck and everything. That was great. Samuel still talks about all of these tricks from one year to the next. It has been something we will all remember for years to come. How many more years does Samuel have still believing? I don't know, but I do know that we will all be sad when it ends for him. But the fun part will be him helping play tricks for John Michael. I will keep you posted on some of the latest tricks!

Samuel's First Deer

Samuel got his first deer this past Saturday morning but I don't know who was more giddy with excitement, he or his dad. This is a moment Joseph has looked forward to since before Samuel was even born. Not the actual kill of his son's first deer, but the whole hunting experience with his son(s). He truly loves getting out in the woods and the quietness and oneness with nature. He has always talked about the bonding time it would provide for them. So anyway, this past weekend was a special time for them.
Yes, it scares me seeing my baby/big boy sitting there with a gun looking so grown up. I just can't think about all that goes on probably while they are out on a "hunt". The climbing up into a tree stand and however far up that is and just the handling of a gun. I just have to trust and pray that God will protect them both as they enjoy this experience together.

Roll Tide & Thank You

Last Saturday night Samuel & I had an exciting, unexpected night out! We had pictures done for our Christmas cards with Kim Lawson at 4:00. On the way home we were talking about what we were going to fix to eat while we watched the ballgame that night and Samuel says that he would really like to go to the game. I tried to talk Joseph into taking him down and trying to get tickets, mind you it is now about 5:00 and kickoff is at 6:45. Joseph suggests that Samuel and I go since I have not even been to a game this season. Of course Samuel gets all excited at the possibility so we go home, quickly change into warm clothes, gather up all of our ball game necessities and head down. We found tickets right off the bat with seats that were covered and with our backs to the brisk wind. We had a great time and it was some much needed one-on-one Mother/Son time. Now, how many husbands would give up a ballgame opportunity to stay home with a little one, just so wife/mom could go to a ballgame and spend some quality time with her oldest son? Not many I would guess. I truly am blessed to have such a wonderful husband and father to our boys!

Samuel's First Hunt

Samuel is growing up! One sure sign is his new desire and excitement about hunting with his dad. Sunday afternoon they went out for the first time and he actually had the opportunity to take a shot at a doe, but missed. He was fine with that though. He was just so excited about the whole experience. I foresee many years of male bonding taking place up in Fayette County for these two and, not so long down the road, John Michael as well. He already cries when his daddy and big brother leave the house, so I'm sure he will be tagging along as soon as they will let him.

My First Deer - A Six-Pointer

Wednesday night on our way to church I got my first deer, although not on purpose! I guess you could say it actually got us with $2,000 worth of damage to prove it. Thankfully no one was hurt! We were on our way to church at about 6:15, it was dark, we were on Martin Road. I looked up, saw the deer and immediately hit the deer. It happened that quick. John Michael never even knew what happened and Samuel couldn't wait to get to church to tell his buddies. It was sad actually to think that I had taken the life of a living animal. No pictures to post of this one!

Halloween Happenings

We had a great time on Halloween. Both boys were so cute/cool in their costumes and had a blast on our neighborhood trick or treat hayride. We started the morning out with a field trip to Birmingham to Disney on Ice featuring The Incredibles. We all enjoyed it, John Michael included. John Michael was so cute in his Little Big Al costume and was a favorite among fellow trick or treaters. Samuel did an awesome job coming up with his own costume this year. I was so proud of him! Hope your halloween was great also.

Pumpkin Carving & Decorating

Tonight we carved a couple of pumpkins and decorated a wee little pumpkin with John Michael. Samuel enjoyed more liberties with the carving tools this year as he is now a big 8 years old so he did 99% of the carving on his. His is the one on the right on the bottom picture and Joseph carved the one eyed dude on the left. John Michael and I did the Mrs. witch potato head pumpkin. He loved playing with it afterwards which gave us a good Christmas idea. We always look forward to carving our pumpkins and John Michael enjoyed his first Halloween carving tradition this year. Hope you enjoy your carving as much as we did!

Some Random Thoughts

I can't believe October is halfway over already! Where does the time go? November is knocking on the door and that means the holidays are just around the corner as well. I really can't believe it! I haven't even thought about Christmas shopping yet. Not even for our boys! I mean I really have NO ideas at this point. Any sugestions? We are excited about Halloween as this is a favorite holiday around our house. We love to decorate, not that we do a whole lot, but we enjoy the pumpkins and scarecrows. A couple weeks ago we were looking at costumes in Target and decided not to purchase a costume this year and come up with our own. This is my favorite thing to do anyway, but the last couple of years Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker have been the choices so we purchased those. But not this year! Samuel has decided to be an Army Soldier and we have plenty of camo around our house to take care of that. John Michael might follow suit and be a little Army Soldier or he could be Big Al and use the elephant costume Samuel wore at that age. We are looking forward to the annual trick or treat hayride we do with our neighbors with chili and a bonfire back at our house afterwards.
We recently had some friends come down from Kentucky for the bama/kentucky game. It was so much fun and we really enjoyed catching up with everyone! We need to do it more often guys!
Last weekend we "Booed" our neighbors and Samuel (and Joseph) had a blast. He and his buddy Tate got all dressed up in their camo and could not wait for the mission to begin! The first target was a success. They knocked on the door, left the goody bag, ran, and had to army crawl across our front yard to keep from getting caught. We watched the neighbors from the window walking around with flashlights trying to catch the little goblins responsible. The next house (target) they weren't so lucky due to an abundance of stairs leading up the front porch. They were busted but the neighbor didn't let on that he saw them. Samuel is already making plans for next year!
Tonight is Fall Festival at school and BBQ nachos afterwards. I am loving the cooler weather we are expecting this weekend. I can't wait to see my little guys in their new Fall clothes from the consignment sale last weekend. Lots of cute things and great deals!
Have a wonderFALL weekend!

Quick, Easy & Delicious

My neighbor gave me a new recipe last week and at first I thought I don't know about the cream of mushroom soup and salsa together. But I tried it anyway and it was sooo good and so easy. So, here it is.
3-4 medium chicken breasts
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 jar salsa
Put in crock-pot in order given and cook on high for about 4 hours or until chicken is done. My chicken was still frozen when I started so it might have taken a little longer. Once done, pull chicken apart with fork. Serve with tortilla chips or in soft tortilla shells. Easy & Yummy!

Kim Lawson Photos

This evening we continued out photo shoot with Kim. Here is a sneak peak from her blog. Yes, Samuel is wearing baseball pants but of course it will be cropped for a close up shot without seeing those in the photo. He had a game immediately following. She got some great shots and I can't wait to see the proofs!

Recent Pics

It has been a while since I have posted some pictures! Here are a couple.

2 Boys Playing

John Michael is so much fun right now. His favorite thing to do is just walk around the house with a horse and a cow in his little hands. His other favorite thing is a light saber that is his very own and he loves to let his brother know that it is HIS and he can't take it from him. He just roams from one room to the other not really bothering anything but sometimes getting underneath tables or climbing up into chairs or getting into the cabinets that aren't locked down. This past Saturday night Samuel and Joseph were playing a football game on the playstation3 (Alabama VS Arkansas just to see if we could beat them again). Samuel decided to take a break and play with John Michael. They were chasing each other around, laughing, and having so much fun that Samuel didn't even care to get back to the football game. It was sweet! And yes Alabama (Samuel) beat Arkansas (Joseph) again that night! A couple of Saturdays ago I took John Michael to Kim Lawson for his one year pictures. I had in mind exactly what I wanted. I wanted something similar to what I had done with Samuel with John Michael wearing the same outfit and everything. Well, John Michael had a different idea. There was blood, snot, & tears involved so I don't know if there will be a picture to hang next to Samuel's or not. Samuel's picture has an antique feel to it with an antique tricycle so Kim had these antiquish boxes which I loved. Well, the only problem was, so did John Michael! So much so that he wanted to carry them around all over the place! So as I'm dragging him back into place, after he has just walked off with the props, he is kicking and screaming. Actually, I think she got a couple of cute ones, much to my surprise, and we are continuing the photo shoot outside tomorrow evening. Hopefully she can just follow him around and let him do his thing. Kim did a great job with a very active, very determined little boy who actually ended up at the doctor that Monday with ear infections! Pictures always stress me out! Samuel has found a new love! Mystery books! He has been reading the A-Z mysteries and just loves them. He has reached the place that I so hoped he would. He is reading not just to get in his 20 minutes a day. He is reading to find out what happens next or to see who did it! I'm loving it! I have been reading some mysteries lately also just to add fuel to the fire. We are loving this time of year and looking forward to some time in Winfield with family this weekend for the annual Mule Day event. The kids love it! Next weekend we are expecting four families down from Kentucky for the Alabama/Kentucky game. We are really looking forward to that!

Lots Going On!

The Jennings household has been a little crazy lately with a major home improvement project, runny noses & fever viruses, baseball, and a very busy - on the go - one year old! One of the things Joseph & I wanted to do when we bought our house four years ago was replace the carpet in the family room with hardwood. We finally decided to undertake this project and do it ourselves. Well, about the time we get a good mess going John Michael gets sick. Then about the time he gets better, Samuel gets sick. And, in the midst of all of this, Fall baseball starts! But nevertheless, less than one week after ripping up the carpet, we moved furniture back onto a beautiful new hardwood floor (at 3AM to be exact). Still lots to do with cleaning up and putting things back but the major work is done. Joseph did an awesome job and I love it! I don't do well with projects such as this that require turning the entire house upside down. It stresses me out very quickly so I am glad to be getting back to normal. Go Owlz! Yes we are back to baseball and we are the Owlz. We haven't won a game yet but we are having fun! Samuel is #10 and learning to play 3rd base and shortstop. He is a little nervous about these new positions but it is good for him! School is going great for Samuel. He loves his teacher, his new school and his classmates. He is taking piano again this year. Although, he says he wants to learn to play the guitar next year and take a break from piano. Either way is fine with me. John Michael is walking walking and walking! He has two new things. One, he wants to dip his chips, or whatever he sees us eating, in dip, salsa or whatever we are having. We were eating one night and he kept pointing and grunting to my plate. I handed it to him and he dips a chip in the dip and eats it like a big boy. Now he loves chips and dip (just like his brother). Two, we hold hands while we say the prayer before eating. He will hold his hands out and hold our hands for the entire prayer with the cutest little grin on his face. This is one of those moments you would love to get on video! We are excited about our Family group this year with lots of great families. We are focusing on Bible memory work and Bible trivia with our kids and I think they are excited. We look forward to a great year of growing together! Alabama game tomorrow in T-town. Roll Tide!

Baby Steps & Birthday Parties

John Michael starting taking some steps on Tuesday and has taken 3 or 4 steps several times since then. He then gets excited and either sits down or loses his balance. He is very proud of himself though with a great big smile across his face. He is a very busy little guy already and walking will probably only increase his rate of activity. I told someone the other day that either I have forgotten this stage with Samuel, or Samuel was not this active, or I am just too old now to keep up with him. He keeps us on our toes! Samuels' 8th birthday party is tonight at the movie theatre with the premier of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated movie. Several of his buddies will be there for the movie and cake afterwards. He is so excited! I'm sure Mrs. Sparks will have a rough time keeping his attention at school today.

First Day of School for TWO Boys

Yes, Samuel AND John Michael started school this week. I don't know which one loved it more. Monday was John Michael's first day at Imagination Station, a new preschool here in town that just opened on Monday. I am SO impressed so far. The facilities are wonderful, bright, shiney, and new! The directors are very experienced and very professional. His teachers are loving and patient. He goes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until 1:30ish. He gets to experience a music & art room, a puppet room, indoor & outdoor play grounds, and a Bible lesson everyday. Monday, the director said he just had a ball! Of the eight kids in his class, he was the only one that didn't cry at all! Some cried from the time they got there. He only fussed when I picked him up off a new toy to leave. I'm glad he loves it! Samuel started at the bright, shiney, and new Northport Elementary school yesterday. He is BMOC (big man on campus) with 2nd graders being the eldest at the new school. He loves the second grade hall and his classroom which are both all decked out in a sports theme. He informed me yesterday afternoon that he was a little nervous about a new school but about halfway through the day he was used to his new teacher and had the new school all figured out so "he was good" to put it in his words. I'm glad they both love their learning environments. They are both really cool and made me want to either go back to kindergarten or teach! Good luck to all our kids who went back to school this week! It's going to be a great year!

Giggles

This morning while getting ready for work, Samuel went to John Michael's room to entertain while I finished up. I was listening through the baby monitor and loved hearing Samuel making his brother laugh. They were both laughing, playing, and enjoying each other. We are so blessed to have two healthy, happy boys. We are done with baseball! The world series was this past weekend and we had a great time. I say we finished up just in time to avoid the 100 degree temperatures this week. Samuel was sad to be finished and he will miss his team mates. Only one other boy on his team goes to his school so he doesn't have much interaction, other than at the ball field, with the others. They had a blast playing and swimming at the hotel during the three day stay. We had the entire 6th floor of the Homewood Hampton Inn to ourselves and it's likely to never be the same. Hall Ball was a huge hit with these seven year olds and many lasting friendships were made. They were already talking about Fall Ball at Kentuck when the weekend came to a close.

Fourth of July Fun

This was taken at Sunshine Pointe on the fourth of July. John Michael enjoyed playing in, and eating, the sand while Samuel enjoyed swimming in the lake and jumping off the pier and was not available for photos. Too busy for that! We all had a great time and enjoyed the fireworks.

Northport 7-Year Old Americans - 4th in the State

Our team finished up the state tournament Monday night coming in 4th in the state. They did a fantastic job and are now looking forward to the World Series next weekend in Gardendale. It should be a lot of fun.

Go Northport Americans - #14

Here are some pics from the District tournament last weekend in Adamsville. Samuel is playing catcher for the first time and loves it. Our State tournament is this weekend here at Kentuck. We are playing Friday at 11:30 AM so if you have nothing else to do on your 4th of July come on out! Samuel was really glad to be playing early in the day so we can still make the firework show at Sunshine Pointe.

Happy Birthday & Congratulations

Happy 1st birthday to John Michael and Congratulations to Samuel for winning the district tournament this past weekend. Last Friday night we celebrated a first birthday with John Michael and last night we celebtrated a championship win with Samuel and his All Star baseball team. It has been a busy and fun past few days! We are having a great summer! I will post some pics from both events when I have more time!

Family Time

This past week we spent five days in Pigeon Forge with my family (mom & dad, 2 sisters, and 7 kids between the three of us). Thankfully we had a very nice, rather large house/cabin to stay in. Complete with our own hot tub, community pool, and a stream running right through the back yard perfect for kids to play in. Of course I enjoyed having mom and sis's around who wanted quality time with the baby of the family. Much time was spent poolside and sitting on the back porch watching the kids play in the creek while reading Harry Potter (yes I am still enjoying them and am now on the third book of the series - call me crazy!) We had a great time and the break was much needed for all of us. Joseph was the only son-in-law to go but he was a life saver. The kids really enjoyed having him to play football with, take them down water slides, and explore the creekside. He and Samuel went river rafting at "River Rats" and did some father/son bonding. He was even a good sport and attended a dinner show (musical) which is not his cup of tea! Even though, I think we all had a great time and Samuel & John Michael had some quality time with grandparents & cousins. The day before we left, Samuel got a phone call from a Kentuck coach asking him to play on his 7-year old All Star team. Of course he was all excited but he was going to miss the first 5 practices (gone five days.. miss five practices, Yes they practice EVERY day of the week excluding Sunday). The coach called his other coaches however and gave him the okay to be out and still play on the team. So, we are back to baseball for the summer. We have a tournament this weekend in Pinson (first game tonight), Adamsville next weekend, State tournament is here at Kentuck this year, and Gardendale for the World Series, finishing up just two weeks before school goes back. Sound like fun? We will see how tired of baseball we are come July and it's 100 degrees and we have a three hour practice. So far Samuel is having a great time! John Michael is 8 days away from his first birthday! I can't believe it! We had some serious swim time while we were away and we discovered that he is just as much of a water lover as his brother. Joseph, much to my dismay, took him completely under the water one day and he came up laughing and splashing. He doesn't care to be splashed, dunked, or whatever. He had a great time swiming with the big kids!

Baseball, School's Almost Out, & Almost A Year Old Already

Need I say more? I was thinking on my way to work this morning that I just can't seem to stay on top of things at home right now. Then I started thinking about the reasons why: Two baseball practices this week already, Church last night, baseball game tonight, end of the year party & field day at school this week, and a very busy, very active, about to be a year old, bouncing baby boy! John Michael is all over the place, crawling at almost a running pace, pulling up onto everything, getting into anything he can reach (except the basket of toys sitting in the middle of the floor that he is SUPPOSED to play with). No wonder! I'm loving every minute of both of these boys and thier many activities but I need to be reminded every now & then that these everyday moments are those precious memories in the making. It doesn't matter if the house is perfect and the laundry is always kept up, I know, but I need to be reminded of that daily. Anyone else in the same boat right now?

Red Wings Update

The Red Wings are in a slump and have dropped down to 4th place in the 7-year old standings at Kentuck. They are now 10-4-1 with only one game to go in the regular season before tournament starts next week. I can't believe the regular season is already almost over! It has been fun and I think the boys have had a good time and have really learned alot about baseball. Hopefully they will be back in full force for the tournament. Go Red Wings!

Atlanta Get-Away

This past weekend we went to Atlanta to attend a Braves baseball game on Saturday night and visit the Aquarium on Sunday. We had a great time! First of all the weather was perfect for a baseball game on Saturday night and our seats were eight rows up from the dugout, right behind third baseman Chipper Jones. Samuel and his friend Brett (& John Michael & Mom & Dad) really enjoyed being so close to the action. John Michael did great. He took about a 30 minute nap halfway through the game and woke up just in time to see the ending.

The boys just before entering Turner Field.

Red Wings Back on Top

Our little team pulled out a big win at Saturday's game with a final score of 22 to 0! After the weekend games, the Red Wings are back in first place. We play one of the other really good teams on Thursday night at 7:30. Thank goodness school is out on Friday! I took my camera but it is hard to get good action shots from the field they play on.

Keeping Life Interesting

John Michael is now pulling up and on the go. He has 4 teeth on top and 2 on bottom (and likes to use them). He LOVES his big brother, his daddy, and Rose Bud; Loves to be outside and play with his toys; Rolls all over the living room floor, scoots backwards and in circles, and, as of yesterday, is pulling up on his walker. I have a feeling things are about to really change around the Jennings household. This little one knows what he wants and when he wants it! His first words were Da Da (Daddy) and Du (for Dog). I'm sure I come in fourth, right behind his Daddy, his dog, and his brother. He will be 10 months old this Sunday. I can't believe we are only 2 months away from his first birthday. It's hard to believe that he was only as we could imagine him this time last year.

Happenings

Ever had a root canal? I had my first yesterday and hopefully my last! Not a lot of fun but not as bad as I had anticipated either. I don't really know what all he did and quite honestly, I don't want to know. I know there were alot of scary tools involved such as a blow torch like thing, a hot glue gun type thing, and I don't even know what else. I do know I had my mouth open for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Anyway, I'm glad it's over! Another ballgame last night for the Red Wings and their first loss of the season. It was not pretty either. They didn't look like the only undefeated team in the 7-year old league that's for sure. Bad night I guess and I'm sure they will pull it back together for Saturday's game. I hope anyway for their sake. Their coaches were not real happy with them last night! They forget sometime, I think, that they are only 7 years old. Tomorrow Samuel gets to go see Seussical. I can't wait to go this weekend myself. Good luck to all our UCC kids who are participating!

Our Little Baseball Player(s) - Present & Future

Go Redwings!!! We had another game last night and barely pulled out another win leaving the Redwings undefeated. They are having a great time and doing a great job. Samuel is playing first base and John Michael is leading the cheers from the stands. Well, not exactly but he is clapping right along with everyone else. I still need to get some good action shots.
